Editorial Policy

Purpose

Energy Tariff publishes guides, explainers, industry pages and blog articles to help UK businesses understand and act on their gas and electricity contracts. This policy sets out how that content is produced.

Editorial independence

Our editorial team decides what we cover and how. Commercial partners — including suppliers on our comparison panel — do not commission articles, pre-approve content, or pay for coverage. Supplier profile pages are informational; they don't confer endorsement.

Sources we use

• Regulatory bodies: Ofgem, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), HMRC (for CCL and VAT), Elexon (settlement data).
• Supplier documentation: published tariffs, terms and licence conditions of the suppliers we quote.
• Trade bodies: Energy UK, the Association for Decentralised Energy, and equivalent recognised organisations.
• Our own quoting data: anonymised trends from live quotes we generate for businesses.

Where a claim depends on a specific figure or rule, we link to or name the source in the body of the article.

Authorship

Articles are written by the Energy Tariff Editorial Team — in-house writers with day-to-day experience of the UK business energy market, supported by our brokerage team who handle live supplier quotes. Where an article requires specialist input (e.g. half-hourly metering, industrial tariffs), it is reviewed by a member of staff with direct experience of that area before publication.

Fact-checking

Every guide and news article is fact-checked before it goes live against the sources above. Regulatory figures (VAT rates, CCL rates, price cap references) are checked against the current Ofgem or HMRC publication at time of publication and re-checked during scheduled reviews.

Corrections

If an article contains a factual error, we correct it as soon as it's brought to our attention and note the change at the bottom of the page where the correction is material. To report a correction, email care@energytariff.co.uk.

Advertising & affiliate relationships

We do not run display advertising and we don't publish sponsored posts. Our commercial model — supplier commission on switches — is explained in full on our Why Trust Us page.

AI-generated content

We use AI tools to assist with drafting, formatting and research, but every article is reviewed, edited and fact-checked by a human on our editorial team before publication. We don't publish unreviewed AI output.

Review cycle

Evergreen guides are reviewed at least every 12 months. Time-sensitive content (rates, regulatory changes, market commentary) is reviewed on the cycle set out in our Content Review Policy.
